Sound the Klaxons! There's just 24hrs to go.

Thank you all so much for backing Little Deaths. It's going to be an awesome book, with some beautiful rewards unique to this campaign.

There's even an extra reward for the last 24 hours, and a final day supercharge on cover style commissions if that's your bag.

2 of the limited edition rarities levels came free this week too. There's some previously unseen death sentence artwork in there, so I'm sure they won't be free for long.

Thanks again for supporting Little Deaths - my first ever art book. I'm sure it'll become a treasured part of your collection.

Cheers

Monty

Stretch Goal Reached - Cover Upgrade!
about 4 years ago – Tue, Feb 18, 2020 at 01:45:32 PM

Awesome! Huge thanks to everyone for making this possible. It's a wonderful thing to see.

I'm so happy we upgraded the cover, thanks to your generosity. And the next target is an upgrade to the rest of the paper stock, to get that luxury feel. I can't wait!

All the paintings themselves are all done and ready to print. The Sci-fi level is proving the most popular so far, with the Collectors Edition the only high rolling pledge with any slots left.  Though if you like a little more butter on your potato, don't forget to peruse the ADD ONS, for cool comics, graphic novels, and Art Prints you can add to your order.

Onwards to the next goal! Share the pinned tweet to help spread the word on twitter , and help make the next upgrade a reality.

It's going to be a great book. Thanks for making it real.

"Bow Ties are Cool" - and Ron Randall
about 4 years ago – Tue, Feb 18, 2020 at 01:45:23 PM

Today's painting is a Doctor Who cover featuring the eleventh doctor, Matt Smith.

I wanted to capture the sheer joy of adventuring through space time here, featuring my second favourite doctor Matt Smith (Tom Baker's the king). It started as a quick pencil sketch of the characters, before painting over that and adding the TARDIS, then the space vista and alien planet behind. I love painting space, you can't get it wrong because no-one knows what's out there so it's a bit more relaxing somehow. This painting forms a key part of the SCI-FI REWARD LEVEL -  which comes with six other amazing sci-fi paintings as art prints, along with the Little Deaths limited edition artbook of course.

Something else I realised looking at the campaign is there's no way to get a print of the cover painting. So I've added a social media stretch goal here...  https://twitter.com/montynero/status/1222822240028413952?s=20 .  If you follow the link and share my pinned tweet about the project I'll add an artprint of the cover painting to everyone's print order when we reach 100 RT's or more. Get sharing!

RON RANDALL'S TREKKER

We can't talk about Sci-fi on kickstarter without mentioning Ron Randall's campaign for the early TREKKER adventures.

When TREKKER first came out in the 1980s it was a ground-breaking series: A badass bounty hunter in a violent 23rd century, whose adventures were published in black and white by Dark Horse . As Gail Simone wrote in her introduction to an earlier collection, "It's of stuff like Trekker that revolutions are begun. A female character that is sexy but not sexualized, that is tough but not without flaws and doubts, and that is dangerous but not without compassion."

Since then Ron's continued to make multiple Trekker adventures, but the Complete Trekker is the first time you can get all those early adventures, carefully recoloured by Ron, as a complete hardback book.

Ron's one of the most talented creators around, so do check it out if sc-fi's your thing.

New Painting - and Karl Kesel
about 4 years ago – Tue, Feb 18, 2020 at 01:45:12 PM

Huge thanks to everyone backing and sharing Little Deaths. I'm really thrilled we get to bring this artbook to life. It was the turn the decade that led me to review how I'd spent my time creatively, and realise that I'd created a LOT of cool paintings, covers, and commissions over the years.  Grouping them all together I could see distinctive themes emerging, and the idea of creating a book to explore this further took shape. It's not just a record of the visual ideas I had in the past, but also points the way forward into areas to explore over the next couple of years, some related, and some brand new. One thing's for sure, this is the only time you'll see all these paintings together.

This pic forms part of The Horror Set - part of a gatefold cover I painted for award-winning Horror anthology Murky Depths. It illustrates one of the horror stories within, and I remember trying to convey the whole vibe of what Murky Depths was all about in one image. It's such an evocative title, I wanted to bring it to life! About halfway through I spent a bit of time adjusting the dark and light areas to get a really striking contrast, before then settling on the green and purple palette (though it's the muted browns that knit it all together). I don't think I've ever painted anything purple and green since (Hmmm. Bring on The HULK!!) but now I look back on it there's lots here I should keep doing when painting horror scenarios.  I made a custom brush to create those cloudy effects, and I actually rooted it out yesterday to paint the atmosphere on an alien planet. (More on that next month).

Thanks to your support we're closing in on an upgraded Little Deaths cover for all print backers! Woot! And if you're a Death Sentence fan you should know ALL of the first 12 main covers are included for the first time without cover furniture or titles, along with many rarities, concepts and pencils, which have never seen the light of day before. There just 2 slots left at that level.

More notes on different paintings soon. You can see all the different sets right here http://kck.st/2uNK6Sh

Before I go, I have to flag up one of my favourite creators, a man who's delivered many fine Kickstarter comics, Mr Karl Kesel. There's just a day left on his latest project making Section Zero and Impossible Jones Trading Cards!!!

Not only that, but there's also a brand new bonus strip drawn and written by Karl himself featuring Sam Hell - Occult investigator. And the cherry on the cake is a unique opportunity for budding comic book creators - a consultation with one of the greats about art, writing, and the comic book business in general!

More very soon.

Cheers
